Pinky Beach - Rottnest Island snorkelling
A wide, sheltered beach with calm water and a low reef just off the sand, overlooked by the historic Bathurst Lighthouse and a short walk from the Thomson Bay settlement. A good place for a relaxed swim or a first snorkel.
The beach is shielded from southerly, south-westerly and westerly winds, and the reef close in gives beginners something to look at without a long swim. Bathurst Lighthouse, completed in 1900 after the loss of the City of York, is automatic and closed to visitors, but it makes a handy landmark and a fine sunset view.
Calm water and an easy walk make it a sensible choice for young families and anyone wanting a quick dip between other plans. Keep off the reef so it stays in good shape.
